So, if you read through the manosphere, Confidence seems to be this magic elixir that will make your life an easy journey of wealth and carefree sex. If you are not succeeding, it is because you lack confidence….
So what exactly is confidence?
According to the great wiki:
“Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself. Arrogance or hubris in this comparison, is having unmerited confidence—believing something or someone is capable or correct when they are not. Overconfidence or presumptuousness is excessive belief in someone (or something) succeeding, without any regard for failure. Scientifically, a situation can only be judged after the aim has been achieved or not. Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability.”
Now, here’s a quote that’s just a festering pit oozing confidence….
“A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.”
If yer the erudite type I suspect reads my blog, I’m confident you are familiar with Machiavelli saying that fortune favors the bold. I’m sure you’ve got that tattered copy of The Prince hidden under your vintage nudie mags, or romance novel if that’s more your kink. Quick, manospherian hacks, I just found a new phrase to make you look tough and smart-fortis Fortuna adiuvat…. literally (the) strong (one), Fortune helps… If ya post it on your blog, link back to me mofo… Anyways, I’ll stop here–we might be getting more into that Will To Power ™ stuff I don’t really understand….
I find myself asking, is confidence something earned? A mixture of competence and experience? Is it merely bravado and does all that fake-it-to-make-it bullsh*t actually work?
Some say it’s in the gene’s. And I thought it was in my jeans. Ironically, competence and intelligence may make you more self critical and less confident in comparison.
When I googled ways to improve self-confidence, working out seemed to come up over and over again. Haha, maybe it’s a huge conspiracy set up by personal trainers and gyms world wide. Maybe it really works. Anyways, sounds better than paying some sleazy PUA guru your hard earned cash. So, it seems to me, project confidence when you can but be ready to call out someone on their bullsh*t because confidence isn’t always linked to competence.
Interesting post. Thanks for the Patton quote.
